The History

Early 1990, the late Sherwood Greenwell and Kona Historical Society Executive director , Jill Olson recognizing that there were many sites and buildings in Kona of historical significance, launched on a “what can we do” discussion. Since the Kona Historical Society was focused on gathering and archiving information the need to establish another organization to preserve these sites became evident. • Interested persons assembled to establish Pūlama iā Kona Heritage Preservation Council. • Sites and projects identified—Kuakini Wall, Keakealani Wahine Complex, Ahupua`a, neighborhoods such as Hōlualoa village, Kainaliu, and buildings such as churches.
